Jane Fairbairn and John Cleghorn Hay

Jane Fairbairn was born on 17 April 1864 at The Shore, Dunbar, East Lothian.

On the 1881 Census for Eyemouth, Jane (aged 16) is employed as a general servant at a house in Yards Head Road, Eyemouth.

In June 1883 Jane gave birth to a girl:-

Julia Fairbairn was born on 2 June 1883 at New Terrace, Eyemouth. It states on her birth certificate that she was an illegitimate child and no details of her father are given.

   On 28 July 1890 Jane Fairbairn married James Smith at New City Road, Glasgow.

  Note:- This marriage date was given on their sons birth certificate, but I have been unable to find the actual marriage certificate.

James Smith was born on 30 January 1891 at New Terrace, Eyemouth, died 21 September 1891 at New Terrace, Eyemouth. James died aged 8 months of tuberculosis of lymph nodes.

  Jane Fairbairn then married John Cleghorn Hay on 21 June 1893 at Cockburnspath. He was born on the 21 October 1863, son of

  son of David Hay and Jane Cleghorn.

David Hay, born 30 May 1894 at 49 Southback, Canongate, Edinburgh, died 8 March 1961 at Carnethie Street, Rosewell, Midlothian. He married Jessie Brodie Fairbairn on 16 July 1920 at The Manse, Dalkeith. She was born on 29 January 1897 in Dalkeith.

Paul Fairbairn Hay, born 29 March 1896 at Canongate, Edinburgh, died 8 January 1933 at Maidencraig Crescent, Ednburgh. He married Margaret Gray Elliot on 4 August 1923 at Roseburn United Free Church, Hampton Terrace, Edinburgh. She was born in 1895.

John Cleghorn Hay, born 20 February 1898 at 49 Southback, Canongate, Edinburgh, died 23 May 1965 at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. He married Jessie MacDonald Henderson on 11 November 1921 at Melbourne Hall, Melbourne Place, Edinburgh. She was born on 24 October 1899 and died 28 March 1934.

Andrewina Hay, born 6 November 1900 at Dumbiedykes Road, Edinburgh, died 14 November 1970 at Roseneath Terrace, Edinburgh. She married Thomas Ponton on 18 May 1928 at Renton Barns. He was born on 25 July 1900, died 10 October 1981 at Leith Hospital, Leith, Edinburgh. They had two children, Francis (1929) and Jane (1936).

Jane Fairbairn died on 28 October 1908 at Dumbieykes Road, Edinburgh, aged 44 years. Jane died of cardiac disease.

On 2 June 1910, John Cleghorn Hay married Euphemia McNab at 3 Appin Terrace, Edinburgh. Euphemia McNab was born in 1865.

Euphemia McNab died on 10 Decemer 1923 at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Cause of death was chronic appendicitis and cardiac failure.

John Cleghorn Hay died on 15 June 1928, aged 64 years at The Mill, Grantshouse. Cause of death was cerebral haemorrhage and cerebral hemiplegia.
