John Cleghorn Hay and Jessie MacDonald Henderson

John Cleghorn Hay was born on the 20 February 1898 at 49 Southback, Canongate, Edinburgh.

He married Jessie MacDonald Henderson, daughter of Joseph Bell Henderson and Martha Briggs on 11 November 1921 at Melbourne Hall, Melbourne Place, Edinburgh. She was born on 24 October 1899 at 8 High Riggs, Edinburgh.

They had 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl.

Euphemia McNab Hay was born on 25 January 1923 at 14 High Riggs, Edinburgh, died on 19 Jan 1983 at Berwick Infirmary Hospital, Berwick-Upon-Tweed. She married William Turner on 20 April 1946 at Houndwood Church, Houndwood. He was born on the 20 June 1924 in Grantshouse, Berwickshire, died 3 October 1997 at The Knoll, Duns. They had 6 children, William, Carol, Sandra, Shirley, Margaret and Gordon.

John Joseph Bell Hay was born on 6 August 1925 at 14 High Riggs, Edinburgh and died on 18 March 1993 at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. He married Margaret Smart Anderson on 28 June 1947 at Lauriston Church, Edinburgh.

John Cleghorn Hay was a Locomotive Driver and Railway Stoker and Jessie MacDonald Henderson was employed as an Oatcake Maker.

On 28 March 1934, Jessie MacDonald Henderson died aged 34 years at 14 High Riggs, Edinburgh. Cause of death was pulmonary tuberculosis.

Notes:- Jessie's grandparents on her father's side were Joseph Bell Henderson and Janet/Jessie MacDonald. Janet died on 11 October 1909 and Joseph died 3 months later on 13 January 1910. Joseph died (aged 64yrs) of a 'self inflicted wound of throat and tumour of brain at 37 Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh. There was a further report from the District of St Giles signed by the Procurator Fiscal on 29 January 1910 stating 'injuries self inflicted through deceased cutting his throat with a knife when in all probability he was in an unsound mental condition.'

On 3 January 1938 John then married Julia Hutt at 8 Greenhill Terrace, Edinburgh. She was born in 1906.

John Cleghorn Hay died on 23 May 1965 at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. He died aged 67 years old.
